Cleaning Travertine in Upton Grey Hampshire

To bring out the full beauty of natural stones like Travertine, Marble, and Limestone, we find that the best restoration method is burnishing. This technique involves using specialised diamond encrusted pads of varying grits to progressively refine the stone’s surface. The coarser pads first remove dirt and accumulated grime, while finer pads are then used to achieve a polished, smooth finish.

Burnishing is especially effective on these types of stone because, while liquid cleaners can be helpful, they don’t always provide the same level of restoration. In fact, some household cleaners, if used incorrectly, can even damage the surface.

We recently worked with a client in Upton Grey, Hampshire, who had a challenging Travertine floor. The surface was heavily pitted and looked grimy and dull, no matter how much they cleaned it. They reached out to us to restore the tiles to their former glory.
As mentioned, burnishing is our go-to method for Travertine restoration, and it works wonders. Not only does it remove dirt and grime, but it also tightens the stone’s pores, creating a natural sheen even before applying any sealer.

For this job, we used a step-by-step burnishing process, starting with a coarse pad and finishing with a very fine one. After each stage, we thoroughly rinsed the floor and used a wet-vac extraction system remove the residue, ensuring the surface was clean and dry.
Once the Travertine was completely dry, we applied a high-quality impregnating sealer specifically designed for use on Travertine, Marble, and Limestone. This sealer not only provides excellent protection but also maintains the stone’s natural colour and texture—no unwanted changes to its appearance.
The results were stunning, with the Travertine looking rejuvenated, polished, and well-protected
